The Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) Diet

The GAPS diet is considered to be a sister diet to the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. It is similar in many respects, as it is a low carb diet that restricts disaccharide sugars and starches.

Where it differs from SCD is that it

  • Does not allow dairy for the first 3 months

  • Emphasises the use of fermented foods

It also has more phases, so can feel more complex.

The diet was devised by Dr Natasha Campbell-McBride, who specialises in treating people on the autistic spectrum. For more information, see her book: The Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet.
